The Tarka Trail

The Tarka Trail is 48km of former railway line across North Devon. Popular with walkers and cyclists alike there are numerous routes of differing lengths to be enjoyed. All routes are buggy friendly for those with small children. You can drive to join any point of the Tarka Trail, but its nearest point accessible by foot is just a 20 minute walk away in Bideford’s centre. From Bideford via the Takra Trail you can walk to Instow Beach, or along to Torrington.

Kenwith Valley Nature Reserve

Practically on your door step, Kenwith Valley Nature Reserve is perfect for those seeking a wander close by. Just down the bottom of the hill there is access to meandering paths around the valley’s wetlands and large lake. With a small stream heading out towards the coast complete with wooden bridge crossing, it really is easy to forget you are so close to home and can immerse yourself in nature. Most of the paths are buggy friendly, but, as this is a wetland, some can be muddy so wellies may be required!

Appledore.jpg

Appledore

If ambling along beautiful cobbled seaside streets, stopping to take in the occasional gallery/gift shop, and popping into cafes/bars, is your ideal way to spend a day, then Appledore is the place for you. For the real walkers amongst you, you can amble all the way there within an hour. For the rest of us, a 10 minute car journey will get you there with enough energy left over to thoroughly explore Appledore’s streets, ending up at the life boat station and incredible views out towards sea.
